1. Registration Requirements
1.1 Eligibility Criteria
To apply to Jinan University, international students must meet the following requirements:
Educational Qualification: Must possess a high school diploma or an equivalent educational level.
Age: Must be over 18 years and not exceeding 25 years old.
Conduct: Must have good conduct and a clean criminal record.
Health: Must be physically and mentally healthy.
1.2 Additional Requirements
In addition to the above general requirements, students who meet the following conditions are eligible to apply:
- Overseas Chinese Students: Students who holds foreign nationality by birth, with at least one parent who is a Chinese citizen residing abroad.
- Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Residents: Students who are residents of Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan, and have obtained foreign nationality through immigration.
To qualify as international students studying in China, these applicants must also fulfill the following:
Passport Validity: Hold a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate for at least 4 years.
Residency Requirement: Have a record of actual residence in foreign countries for more than 2 years within the past 4 years (from May 1, 2021, to April 30, 2025).
Note: Time spent in foreign countries for more than 9 months in a year can be counted as one year.Entry and exit signatures will be used to verify residency.
1.3 Language Proficiency Requirements
Applicants must meet the following language proficiency requirements based on the language of instruction for their chosen major:
For International School (English-Taught Majors): Non-native English speakers must demonstrate English proficiency through one of the following:
- IELTS: Minimum overall score of 5.5, with no section below 5.0
- TOEFL (IBT): Minimum score of 80
- SAT: Minimum total score of 1030

One of the primary reasons for selecting Jinan University is that it has one of the best rankings not just in China but also internationally. The accommodation and facilities for students there astounded me, and it is also a melting pot of international students. As we all know, MBBS is a difficult subject that takes longer to complete than any other degree, hence it is difficult to select a suitable living environment for 6 years. But all my doubts were cleared when I saw Jinan University's living arrangements and how good their standards are. It is also one of the oldest universities so I only presume they have the best education too so I've opted to enroll at this university for my MBBS courses.

Firstly, I have been in China for most of my life, even though I am from Poland, I have spend a majority of my life right here in Guangzhou. My whole 12 year education was started and finished here in Clifford. To be able to continue my studies here in Guangzhou, so close to my home and family would be a dream come true. I have always wanted to stay close to home when I finish my high school education, so I can stay in touch and later settle here in China. Secondly, Jinan University has consistently come up when I mentioned throughout the years that I wanted to stay in China for my University studies. Teachers who were familiar with the area, and knew about Jinan University would always recommend it as a number one choice. I recently have had a biology teacher from Nigeria, who finished his studies in Canada, and taught only in Suzhou, yet he still knew about and recommended that I go to study at Jinan University. Lastly, I myself have always admired the university. I have lived in Guangzhou for 13 years now, and I have driven past Jinan University many times, and each time I admire the cleanliness compared to its surroundings. Guangzhou cannot be considered a clean place, but Jinan University certainly can. I also love that it is located in the heart of the city, in the middle of all the life and drive of this city. It very much paints a picture in my head how this university in the heart of the city provides a great education, which(education) is the heart of a country.

3. Graduation
Editor Notes: Upon meeting the requirements and pass graduation exam, you will be awarded degree certificate.
On completing the requirements of the teaching program and passing the graduation examinations successfully, international medical undergraduates will be granted a graduation certificate and conferred a medical degree by Jinan University, if they meet the degree regulations of the university. The English copy of the degree will state Bachelor's degree in Medicine.

-Please note that this document is valid for only 3 months. For instance, if you submit your -application in April, your non-criminal record must have been issued no earlier than January.
-Obtain a police clearance certificate from the local police station where you currently reside, confirming no criminal record in the past 6 months at the time of application.
-You need to translated it into CHINESE if it is not in Chinese; Then you need to get it notarized by local notary office and then get it certified by local Chinese embassy; If your country has joined the HAGUE convention then just do the Chinese translation and Apostille; Then you may need to mail original copy of non-criminal record and translation & certified(or Apostille) documents to the university in China.

A self-introduction that includes past learning experiences and study plans while in China.
*4. Physical Examination Report
The students who apply for medical majors should provide a physical examination report from the past six months.

The Physical Examination Form template is provided in the attachment of this guide..5. As per the Notice of the Ministry of Education on Standardizing the Acceptance of International Students in Our Higher Education Institutions (Doc. [2020] No. 12), the following documents are required
For applicants who were originally residents of the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan and later acquired foreign nationality:
Certificate of cancellation of Chinese nationality or registered residence.
Certificate of foreign nationality acquisition.
Entry and exit records for the past four years (up to April 30, 2025).
For applicants who obtained foreign nationality at birth (if either or both parents are Chinese citizens):
Proof of foreign nationality obtained at birth.
Permanent residence certificate of the applicant’s Chinese parents in a foreign country before birth.
